Why does the refrigerator squeak with the door closed and how to fix the problem

If you keep the refrigerator door open for too long or it does not close properly, an audible alarm will sound. Usually, along with the notification indicator starts flashing. But it happens that the refrigerator "Bosch", "Samsung", "Liebher", "Atlant" or another brand squeaks with the door closed. Let's see why this happens.

Refrigerator

In what cases is a sound alert when the door is closed - the norm

First of all, you need to make sure that the door of the household appliance is completely closed. Perhaps the dishes are close to the edge and prevent the door from closing completely.

In the summer, the refrigerator may start to squeak if you put too many warm foods inside. Because of this, the temperature inside the refrigerator compartment rises sharply. Electronics recognizes this as an open door.

In this case, you need to wait a few minutes. After the refrigerator enters the operating mode and reaches the desired temperature, the squeak will stop.

Important! It is not recommended to load recently cooked dishes in the refrigerator, to overload the chamber, to place food and utensils close to the walls.

New refrigerators or appliances that are turned on after a long break should set the desired temperature. For this, the device may need up to a day. And all this time the device can beep.

If ice forms in the freezer compartment, the temperature sensor may incorrectly read and transmit information. To get rid of the squeak, it is enough to perform a defrost.

Of course, immediately after start-up, the refrigerator can still beep for a while until the desired temperature is set. But if the launch does not stop for a long time, this is an occasion to sound the alarm.

Sometimes refrigerators squeak if extra freeze mode is set. In this case, annoying alarms can simply be turned off (see below for how to do this) or set a different temperature mode.

Faults in which the refrigerator beeps

The principle of triggering an audible alarm is based on the operation of a temperature sensor. There are no door position sensors in refrigerators. In fact, the alarm is triggered not by the open door, but by increasing the temperature in the chambers. This circumstance may indicate the appearance of various kinds of malfunctions. Consider them.

  • Refrigerant leaked.

In addition to the squeak, you can see that both cameras or one do not freeze. Leaks most often occur at factory soldering sites or in a crying evaporator. In this case, the refrigerator, trying to make up for the lack of cold, usually works without shutdowns or turns off for a short time. After the refrigerant has completely disappeared from the system, the compressor stops turning on. To eliminate the malfunction, it is necessary to eliminate the leak and refuel the system with freon.

  • The temperature sensor is out of order.

Error F2 lights up on the display - probably a problem with the evaporator temperature sensor

A broken sensor sends incorrect temperature data to the control unit in the chambers, resulting in an alarm. On some models, the error code F2 is displayed. A faulty sensor needs to be replaced.

  • Faulty compressor compressor system.

Depending on the nature of the breakdown, the motor may turn on and off immediately, operate without shutdowns, and not turn on at all. The compressor may break due to inter-turn short circuits, short circuit windings.

Important! Another possible reason is the loss of compressor performance. As a rule, the motor loses its performance due to prolonged use. Most often, a replacement motor compressor is needed, but not always. The compressor may not turn on due to a breakdown of the start-up relay.

  • Faults in the control board. As a rule, the control module burns out due to power surges. Therefore, it is better to connect the equipment through a protective filter.
  • Malfunction in evaporator defrost system. This malfunction is not only accompanied by a red light and a sound alert. It is possible to suspect something was wrong in the defrost system by seeing strong ice on the evaporator.

Alarm indicator lights up - No Frost system may be faulty

  • Worn door seal. Over time, the rubber wears out and does not provide the necessary tightness. As a result, warm air enters the chambers. Check the integrity of the sealing rubber in a simple way. To do this, take a piece of paper, place it on the seal and slam the door. After that, without opening the door, try to pull out the sheet. If it turned out, it means that a gap has formed in this place or the seal is not tight. Using this simplest method, check the integrity of the seal around the perimeter. As you can see, sometimes improvised tools such as a piece of paper are also effective for diagnosis.

Check the density of the seal

In some cases, the refrigerator freezes and cools properly, but squeaks. The reason may be failure of the switch, damage to the wires going to the screen, screen, control buttons.

How to turn off the beep in the refrigerator

Do not forget to read the instructions - it contains a lot of useful and necessary information

If you want to disable squeaking, refer to the instructions. Many manufacturers provide a special shutdown button on the panel. In Bosch refrigerators, this button with the image of the speaker, in “Samsung” - the “OK” button, in “Nord” - the crossed out bell.

In refrigerators of the Atlant trademark, a user-defined alarm shutdown is not provided. The inclusion of sound alarms and lighting in the Atlantes is assigned to a reed switch with a magnet. The first is located under the top cover, the second is in the door. If the reed switch is broken, the following situations are possible:

Burnt switch

  • the refrigerator beeps, and the light is constantly on;
  • the light does not light at all, and the alarm does not work, even if the door is open for more than 30 seconds.

When the reed switch burns out, you can smell burnt plastic. This breakdown is characteristic of refrigerators of this particular brand. If you are tired of the constant squeak, and there is a desire to turn it off before the arrival of the master, do the following:

Remove the top bezel to get to the reed switch.

  • Use a screwdriver to loosen the two screws on the top cover.
  • Remove the cover by pulling it slightly towards you.
  • You will see a rectangular block with two pins.
  • Disconnect contacts. Along with the alarm, the lighting will disappear.
